Senator Toomey’s deficit-reduction plan rewards the wealthy at the expense of children.
Dear Friend of PCCY,
Senator Toomey’s deficit-reduction plan rewards the wealthy at the expense of children.
While he claims that his plan includes a significant concession in revenues, it raises grave concerns for children. Click here to tell Senator Toomey and his Super Committee colleagues this is not a fair approach.
The plan includes large new tax cuts for the wealthy, which would force low- and middle-income Americans to bear the pain of the budget cuts and tax increases needed to achieve $1.5 trillion in savings over the next decade.
If adopted the plan would force policymakers to make devastating spending cuts that would impact millions of children. These include steep cuts to Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), education, and a wide range of other vital services such as Head Start and child care.
Instead of calling for fair contributions from those who are best able to afford it, the plan couples permanent reductions in high-end tax rates with severe reductions in Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs that are vital to children. The result? An increase in the after-tax incomes of the wealthy and increasing hardship upon millions of less-affluent Americans.
Tell Senator Toomey our kids deserve better by clicking here.
Sincerely,
Shelly D. Yanoff, Executive Director
