Tax Big Oil To Support Kids?
Dear Friend of PCCY,
If you’re like most Southeastern Pennsylvania residents, you’ve heard so much about drilling in the Marcellus Shale region that it’s hard to keep up. A moratorium on drilling, environmental regulations, local impact fees vs. taxes…
Now, however, there’s sensible legislation that will address concerns about the Marcellus Shale and help support Pennsylvania’s kids. Reps. Tom Murt and Gene DiGirolamo, both from Bucks County, have written a bill that would tax drillers and use the proceeds to help pay for education, after-school and child welfare programs in addition to environmental protection and economic development! Dozens of state legislators from both parties have signed on.
Click here to urge your state Representative to support this bill.
We know House Bill 1863 isn’t the solution to all of Pennsylvania’s budget problems. But at a time of fiscal austerity, it would provide new revenue to the Accountability Block Grant, which supports early childhood education, small class size, support for struggling students and teacher training. Additional funds would support after-school programs and child welfare services, in addition to services for the homeless, seniors and adults with disabilities.
We hope you will take a few minutes to contact your state Representative and urge support for this promising bill, which is clearly a step in the right direction.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Shelly Yanoff
