State Senate Needs to Hear From You Today!
Dear Friend of PCCY:
The Pennsylvania Senate reconvenes in Harrisburg this week to consider the House budget for 2012-2012. This budget would:
• Roll back funding for K-12 Education to 2008-2009 levels;
• Cut the budget for Early Care and Education by $40 million; and
• Slash more than $400 million more from human services for children and adults.
We can avoid this disastrous outcome in several ways. Pennsylvania has an anticipated budget surplus of more than $500 million, which it could use next year. And there are a number of outstanding proposals to raise new revenue by taxing natural gas from the Marcellus Shale.
Senate leaders are waiting to hear from members before committing to priorities. Please take three minutes to call your Senator today. (Click here for your Senator’s name and contact information.) Tell him or her:
• The House budget jeopardizes funding for early childhood education and K-12 education. (Feel free to provide examples from your community.)
• Urge your leadership to restore funds for early childhood education and K-12 students, using the projected surplus and new revenue from the Marcellus Shale to offset expenses.
If you prefer to send an email, click here for a sample message.
Your visits, calls and letters have made all the difference in how Senators are viewing this budget. The outcome of budget negotiations may well depend on Senate votes from Southeastern Pennsylvania, so please keep it up!
Thank you!
