The Picasso Project gives $5000 grants to individual Philadelphia public schools to support innovative programs in the visual and performing arts at their schools. As we prepare for our 2010 grant year, we have already received over 25 proposals from schools that want to provide programs in art, music, dance, drama, and multimedia arts. Our goal is to fund arts projects in nine schools.

PLEASE HELP US RAISE FUNDS FOR ONE SCHOOL ($5000) BEFORE THE SCHOOL PROPOSALS ARE REVIEWED ON DECEMBER 8, 2009.

Background about the Picasso Project

Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) , a 501 (c) (3) organization, started the Picasso Project in 2002 with two goals in mind: to increase arts learning opportunities in Philadelphia public schools immediately while advocating for policy and funding changes that would lead to long-term support of the arts for Philadelphia’s children.

Since 2002, the Picasso Project school arts grants program has provided $224,638 in direct support to more than 15,000 students and 61 schools to create innovative arts programming in collaboration with community based arts organizations.

Did You Know that in several national studies, students at risk of dropping out cite participation in the arts as their reason for staying in school.
