Congress Must Continue Aid To The States - FMAP
Congress returns to Washington next week to consider extending desperately-needed federal aid to the states. Without this aid, Pennsylvania will have to cut $850 million from the bare-bones budget just signed into law. (For more information on how children fare in the state budget click here).
If cuts are made, they will compromise services that Pennsylvania children and families depend on every day. For example, we could lose substantial funding for quality early childhood education, including Pre-K Counts and state-funded Head Start. Local school districts would lose teachers. Fewer children and families would have access to health care. Twenty thousand people statewide would lose jobs.
As your Representative returns to Washington, urge him or her to extend federal aid to states through FMAP -- the enhanced federal Medicaid matching rate. (If you would like more information about this, click here). Tell your Representative that Congress should not adjourn for its traditional summer recess before supporting this essential piece of legislation.
