Help us protect Pennsylvania's children and families from devasting federal budget cuts.
The FY2011 budget proposal approved by U.S. House makes unprecedented cuts – just over $60 billion in discretionary spending from current FY 2010 funding levels. But the budget debate is not over. The Senate will tackle the budget when Congress returns to session the week of February 28th, and then a final compromise must be reached between the House and Senate proposals.
NOTHING – not even programs to help our most vulnerable children and families -- is safe from cuts as policymakers focus on reducing our nation’s deficit. We need you to help deliver the message that deficit reduction should not be shouldered by vulnerable and low-income children and their parents.
Click here to sign onto a letter urging Senators Casey and Toomey to protect investments that help children and families – like early learning programs – and take a balanced approach to resolving the federal budget.
We cannot rely on cuts alone to achieve deficit reduction. The cuts proposed in the House budget proposal will force children out of child care and Head Start programs, eliminate jobs, reduce federal support for our schools, and abandon federal aid for low-income families.
Furthermore, these severe cuts will also jeopardize our economic recovery at a time when tens of millions of Americans continue to struggle with food insecurity, hunger, unemployment, and wages and hours of work that are inadequate to support families.
We need you to raise your voice against these damaging cuts. Please sign onto the letter by close of business on Monday, February 28th.
Thank you.
