Now That You Know
Dear Friend of PCCY,
Last week when children in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties and Philadelphia returned to school, they got a glimpse of how local school districts are coping with reduced state funding: less full day kindergarten, larger class size, fewer school nurses, electives, art classes and sports teams.
Our children’s education isn’t the only thing to suffer: low and middle-income families are losing access to many other valuable programs at a time when Pennsylvania has a $1.1 billion budget surplus and a vast new source of untaxed income in the Marcellus Shale.
It’s as if lawmakers are averting their eyes, turning away from the difficulties these choices are creating for children in our region and statewide.
That’s why PCCY has initiated Now That You Know, an effort to document the impact of the cuts on children and families in every community in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Now That You Know is an interactive, web-based campaign that relies on you and others you know to tell us about the impact of cuts in your community. Send us your one-minute interview and we’ll make sure lawmakers see it before they make key budget decisions.
The technology is simple and easy to use. Click here to learn more about how you can participate in this effort. It’s one more way that you can speak out on behalf of the region’s kids.
Sincerely,
Shelly Yanoff
Executive Director
