Stop The State’s Plan to Limit Food Stamps for Struggling Families!
Dear Friend of PCCY,
The state Department of Public Welfare (DPW) plans to enact an “asset test” for food stamps beginning this spring. This plan would result in the denial of critical food assistance to tens of thousands of Pennsylvania children and families.
Please call 800-515-8134* and tell Governor Corbett:
“I urge you to stop the asset test for food stamps, which will hurt children, families and Pennsylvania's economy.”
Slightly less than half of Pennsylvania’s food stamp recipients are children. Under this plan, which would take effect on May 1, 2012:
-
Families with as little as $2,000 in assets ($3,250 for seniors or people with disabilities) would not be able to receive food stamps.
-
Tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians – children and families who are struggling to make ends meet – could lose critical dollars that help them put food on the table.
-
This rule would discourage savings, which both provide a cushion for emergencies and help families build a brighter future.
An asset test would result in the loss of tens of millions of dollars in federal SNAP dollars to Pennsylvania.
Please call the Governor’s office now at 800-515-8134 and urge him to stop the asset test for food stamps because it will hurt children, families and Pennsylvania’s economy!
Sincerely,
Shelly Yanoff
