Call Your U.S. Representative TODAY and tell him/her to Vote NO on the Ryan Budget Proposal for FY 2012!

While they have yet to finalize the FY 2011 budget, the House of Representatives is expected to vote (TODAY) on a federal budget resolution for FY 2012 that would make unprecedented cuts to programs that are proven to work for children, young people and communities.

Supporters claim that the severe cuts in this budget are necessary to address our nation’s debt. But this proposal achieves very little deficit reduction.

  • The $4.3 trillion in spending cuts will barely make a dent because they are offset by $4.2 trillion in tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and corporations.
  •  Furthermore, two thirds of the cuts —$2.9 trillion— come from low-income programs that are critical supports for children, the elderly and those with disabilities.

Please call your Representative now and tell him/her to, "Vote NO on the Ryan Budget Proposal."

While supporters of this budget resolution compare its choices to the difficult family budget decisions parents make, this is simply not true.  Would responsible parents deeply cut the family food budget forcing their children to go hungry at the end or the month, eliminate doctor visits or needed medicine when their children are sick, or stop investing in their children’s education, so that they could buy a second home or better fund their already healthy retirement account?

Our nation’s debt must be addressed. We need a long-term plan that prioritizes our children. “Block granting” critical programs like Medicaid and SNAP (food stamps), which means capping the dollars available, won’t decrease demand. It will simply limit federal financial support for the basic medical and nutritional needs of millions of children.

Most parents do all they can to develop a balanced plan to support their children’s healthy development and prepare them for the future.  Our children need to be a priority for Congress. If we cut investments in them, we won’t have a very bright future.  Not sure who represents you... click here to find out!
